Give a friend R800 off. Get R800 back.

Share your personal code. When someone books their first tour with it, they save R800 — and once they've travelled, R800 comes back to you.

How it works

  1. 1 Share your code Every traveller gets a personal code. Send it to a friend on WhatsApp, or share your link — the discount applies automatically at checkout.
  2. 2 They book and save R800 Your friend uses the code on their first tour with us and R800 comes off their total. They still only pay R3,000 to secure the spot.
  3. 3 You get R800 after they travel Once they've been on the tour, we pay your R800 — as a credit against your next trip, or by EFT if you'd rather have the cash.

Questions

When exactly do I get paid?

After your friend has travelled, not when they book. Bookings occasionally get cancelled or refunded, and paying earlier would mean chasing money back — which is unpleasant for everyone. Once they're home, your R800 is due.

How do I receive the R800?

Your choice. Either as a credit against your next tour, or paid out by EFT. Tell us which when your first reward becomes due.

Is there a limit to how many people I can refer?

You can refer up to ten people in a calendar year — R8,000 in rewards. If you're regularly hitting that, talk to us, because you're doing something we should probably be paying you properly for.

Can I use my own code?

No. Codes don't work for the person they belong to, and we can't pay a reward where the traveller and the referrer share an email address, phone number or billing address.

Can my friend combine it with another discount?

No — one discount per booking. The referral R800 can't be stacked with the birthday-month or returning-client discount, and it must be applied before the invoice is paid.

Does it work on every tour?

It applies to bookings of R10,000 or more. On sale departures that are already discounted, the referral code may not apply — the tour page will tell you at checkout.

What if my friend cancels?

The reward falls away with the booking. If they move to a different departure, it carries over — just let us know.

I don't have a code yet

If you've travelled with us and there's no code on your account, message us on WhatsApp and we'll issue one the same day.

Refer & Earn — Give R800, Get R800

The rules, in plain language

We've kept this deliberately simple, because referral programmes that need a legal team to understand tend not to get used.

  • Your friend must be new to us. The code applies to someone's first booking with Thrifty Adventures.
  • Minimum booking value R10,000. The R800 doesn't apply to our shortest weekend trips.
  • One discount per booking. The referral R800 can't be combined with the birthday-month or returning-client discount, and it must be claimed before the invoice is paid.
  • Rewards are paid after travel, not on booking or deposit.
  • Ten referrals per person per calendar year.
  • No self-referrals. We can't pay a reward where the traveller and referrer share an email address, phone number or billing address.
  • Cancelled bookings cancel the reward. Postponed bookings keep it — just tell us.
  • Sale departures may be excluded, in line with our Promotional Booking Policy.

Full terms are on our Terms & Conditions page. If anything here is unclear, message us on WhatsApp and ask — we'd rather explain it than have you guess.

Why we do it this way

Most of our travellers arrive because someone they trust told them about us. That has always been true, and for years we ran a referral app that made it more complicated than it needed to be, without telling us much.

So this version is simpler. One code, tied to you. No app to sign up for, no dashboard to learn, no minimum payout threshold to reach before you see anything. You share a code, your friend saves money, and after they've travelled we pay you.

The reason we pay after travel rather than on booking is the only part that isn't purely generous, and it's worth being straight about it: bookings do occasionally get cancelled and refunded. If we paid on booking we'd have to ask for money back, which is a miserable conversation to have with someone who has just done us a favour. Waiting until the trip has happened means that never comes up.
