Return & Refund Policy

Thank you for choosing Thrifty Adventures. Please review our return and refund policy carefully before booking. These terms apply to all tours unless otherwise stated in writing.


1. Non-Refundable Deposit

A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking:

  • R3,000 for flight-based tours
  • R2,000 for road-based tours

This deposit may be transferred to another tour happening within 6 months only if:

  • The request is made before an airline ticket is issued, and
  • At least 30 days before departure for non-flight-based tours

2. Final Payment

The balance of your payment is due 21 working days before departure. Late payments will incur a R500 administration fee.


3. Cancellations & Refunds

If you cancel your booking, the following refund policy applies:

Time Before Departure Refund (%)
90+ days Full refund (excluding deposit and any purchased air ticket)
60+ days 90% refund (excluding deposit and any purchased air ticket)
30+ days 60% refund (excluding deposit and any purchased air ticket)
Less than 30 days Non-refundable

Note: Once a flight ticket has been approved and purchased, the cost becomes part of the non-refundable deposit and is excluded from any refund.


4. Replacement Travellers

A full refund (excluding deposit and any purchased air ticket) will only apply if the client finds a suitable replacement who pays the full amount originally paid.


5. Missed Tours or Travel Delays

No refunds will be issued if a client:

  • Misses their flight or bus due to delays or incorrect documentation
  • Fails to join the tour for any reason

The cost and consequences of missed travel are the sole responsibility of the client.


6. Cash Deposit Fees

Any bank charges resulting from direct cash deposits will be added to the client’s account.


7. Rebooking Policy

If a client requests to rebook or change their tour within 30 days of departure, a R500 rebooking fee will apply.

  • Transfers from full-priced tours to promotional packages are not permitted
  • Bookings are not transferable to another individual

8. Postponement by Thrifty Adventures

In the case of force majeure—including border closures, natural disasters, political unrest, low booking numbers, or other major disruptions—Thrifty Adventures reserves the right to postpone the tour.

In such cases:

  • No refunds will be issued

9. Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that clients purchase travel insurance to cover personal cancellations due to:

  • Illness or medical emergencies
  • Death in the family
  • Work-related travel denials
  • Any other personal emergencies

All refund policies outlined above remain in effect, regardless of personal circumstances.
