Egypt: your questions answered
Do South Africans need a visa for Egypt?
No — South African passport holders get their visa on arrival at the immigration counter, free of charge. There is nothing to apply for before you fly.
One thing worth knowing in advance: at Cairo airport there is a visa counter before immigration selling a US$25 visa on arrival sticker. That counter is legitimate and exists for the many nationalities who do have to pay — but South Africans do not need it.
Walk past it and go straight to immigration, where your visa is issued free in your passport. Your tour leader will be with the group and will point everyone in the right direction.
Your passport must have at least six months' validity remaining.
How much spending money do I need for Egypt?
From R3,000 covers meals not included and local costs. Add more if you plan optional activities — camel rides, horse riding and quad biking at the Pyramids, or jet ski and parasailing at Ain Sokhna. Egypt is inexpensive once you're there, so your money goes far.
Is Egypt safe for solo female travellers?
Our travellers report feeling safe, particularly moving as a group with a tour leader. Cairo is busy and street harassment can happen — dressing modestly with shoulders and knees covered reduces attention considerably. Most of our group travels solo, so you won't be alone.
What should I pack for Egypt?
Lightweight, modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees — essential for mosques and the Citadel, and sensible everywhere. A scarf for women is useful. Comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen and a hat. Swimwear for the Red Sea at Ain Sokhna.
Is the Pyramid entrance included?
Yes — entrance to the Pyramids of Giza is included in your tour, along with the Citadel and Cave Church. Camel rides, horse riding and quad biking at the Pyramids are optional and paid locally.
What's the food like, and can I drink the water?
Egyptian food is excellent and cheap — koshari, ful medames, grilled meats and fresh bread. Stick to bottled water throughout, including for brushing your teeth. Avoid ice in drinks outside hotels and restaurants for the first few days.
What is included in your Egypt tour?
Return flights from OR Tambo, airport transfers, shared accommodation, all breakfasts, a dhow cruise dinner on the Nile, entrance to the Pyramids, the Citadel and Cave Church visit, a Cairo city tour, an Ain Sokhna beach day on the Red Sea, and a tour experience leader throughout.

Yes. R3,000 secures your spot. We invoice the balance with a card payment link, or you settle by EFT in instalments before departure. No interest, no credit check.
