What you need
- Passport with at least six months' validity remaining
- UAE e-visa, arranged before travel — the fee is not included
- Travellers under 18: unabridged birth certificate, valid passport, and an affidavit from any parent not travelling
- Recommended spending money from R8,000 across both destinations. Budget more if you plan to shop in Dubai — electronics, phones, laptops and clothing all go on serious sale
- Modest clothing for temples in Thailand and public spaces in Dubai

Your itinerary
Seven days in Phuket, then Dubai. You leave Phuket on the Sunday evening and land in Dubai early on the Monday morning, so the Dubai leg runs Monday to Thursday.

- Desert safari — dune bashing, a short camel ride, free henna, buffet dinner and Arabic entertainment with a fire show, belly dance and tanoura dance.

- City tour with a local guide — Dubai Mall, the Aquarium and the Observatory.
