What you need
- Passport with at least six months' validity remaining
- Schengen visa — apply well in advance; appointments are limited
- Travellers under 18: unabridged birth certificate, valid passport, and an affidavit from any parent not travelling
- Recommended spending money from R8,000 — lunches and dinners are not included
- Comfortable walking shoes — Athens and Oia are both steep and cobbled
